Dr. John D. Kling
Dr. John D. Kling II was raised in Alexandria, Virginia. He graduated from Wake Forest University in North Carolina with a B.A. in Biology in 1979 and from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1984. He completed his residency at Buffalo General Hospital in 1985, and has been in private practice in Old Town Alexandria since that time.
Dr. Kling’s post-graduate education includes extensive course work through the L.D. Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education, the Dawson Center for Advanced Dental Study, and the LSU School of Dentistry’s Academy of Continuing Dental Education. He has earned the highest achievement of Mastership through the Academy of General Dentistry, which requires more than 1100 hours of approved continuing dental education in all aspects of dentistry.
Professional Affiliations and Recognitions
Dr. Kling is an active member of the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, American Academy of Implant Dentistry, Virginia Dental Association, Northern Virginia Dental Society, and the Alexandria Dental Society where he previously served as its president.s
He has been repeatedly selected as “Washington’s Best Dentist” in the Washingtonian Magazine and Consumers Research Council of America. His patient’s have continuously honored him in the Washington’s Consumer Checkbook and his practice was chosen for the Professional Business of the Year Award in 1998 by the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce.
Community Affiliations and Recognitions
As an active community member he belongs to the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce and the Alexandria Rotary Club. He is an annual sponsor of the Alexandria Walk to Fight Breast Cancer and was the former chair of the Alexandria Public Health Advisory Commission.
Dr. Kling volunteered for years at the Northern Virginia Dental Clinic and for the citywide program placing protective sealants for children. He currently is involved with the “Give Back a Smile” program, providing local individuals reconstructive dentistry after domestic abuse. In February 2009 Dr. Kling was honored as a nominee for the “Living Legends of Alexandria”.
Our Team Members
The members of Dr. Kling’s team share his commitment to improve and enhancing their skills through continuing education. They are dedicated to providing patients with outstanding esthetic and functional dentistry.
Paula Mitchell is our Patient Care Administrator. She has been with our practice for over 10 years. She assists patients in the comprehensive care process and coordinates their treatment between Dr. Kling and select specialists.
Paula is a certified dental assistant with 12 years clinical experience and since joining Dr. Kling in 1995 has been managing the front office. She received her associates degree in 1982 and has taken C.E. courses in Business Administration from the Pankey Institute and L.S.U. School of Dentistry.
As a native Virginian, she enjoys history, gardening, cooking, and painting.
Barbara Wright, our Registered Dental Hygienist, joined Dr. Kling in the spring of 1997. She is and has been dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of care in our soft tissue management therapy.
She received her RDH degree from the Northern Virginia Community College and is a member of the American Dental Hygiene Association, the Virginia Dental Hygiene Association, the Northern Virginia dental Hygiene Association, and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
Active in the Northern Virginia Children of Chernobyl program, Barbara also volunteers at the Northern Virginia Dental Clinic at Baileys Crossroads.
In her spare time she likes to garden and do needlework.
Jodi Hannus moved to southern Maryland in 1983 with her family from her hometown of Jacksonville , Florida. She has been in the dental field since 1993 and has obtained her Certified Dental License with the Dental Assisting National Board.
Her experience in all areas of dentistry allows her to understand patients’ needs and help with any questions. She will be there to help you schedule appointments and make financial arrangements. She enjoys the relationships with our patients and strives to make everyone’s visit a relaxing, positive experience.
In her spare time she enjoys shopping with friends and working a concession stand during the summer and fall seasons. Her lazy time is spent enjoying the water her water phobic golden retriever Princess.
Sarah Flanary is our clinical assistant. She will be the one greeting you to your dental chair and working along side Dr. Kling throughout the dental procedures. Sarah has a very bubbly personality and is always smiling. She enjoys working with patients to make their experience here a comfortable one.
Sarah has over seven years of experience in the field, finishing her formal training a Indian River Community College in 2004. Originally from Southern Maryland, Sarah moved to Northern Virginia in 2005 to be closer to her family.
When Sarah's not working she enjoys having dinner with friends and spending time with her family. She also enjoys walking her dogs, reading, photography, and cooking.
Jessica Sanchez is one of our clinical assistants and is a native of Alexandria. When she greets you will see a wonderful bubbly personality. She finds great joy in helping patients achieve their beautiful smile.
Jessica is a Certified Dental Assistant and received her training in a program at Howard University. She has over 13 years of experience in all fields of dentistry. She has also earned her expanded duties license as a surgical assistant.
Jessica enjoys spending time with her two children Michael and Tayah. In her spare time she enjoys volunteering at their school and with local charities.
